One of the things you find when you're juggling a family, a career, and a writing aspiration is that there's not a lot of time in which you can do the things you want to do...like add entries to your blog, for example. The other thing you find it when you do have time you have absolutely nothing to say. This is part of the frustration of being a writer, it seems like you have a lot to say all of the time, until it comes time to say it. Then you'll do anything not be be saying something, like the washing up, or the ironing, or watching a movie, or staring at the ceiling, etc, etc.
Perhaps this entry should be called procrastination?
So, the past couple of weeks I haven't written any poetry, which seems to be becoming the norm. But this is okay, it beats writing poetry as a habit, 'cos that way you get bad poetry. Instead I've been writing a story, it's called Events Surrounding a Black Hole and I'm hoping to get it published, watch this space for details.
I also had some success! Received a letter from Fire saying they'd accepted a couple of my poems for publication. This is brilliant news, especially as the submission to Fire went off so long ago I'd completely forgotten about it.
I discovered some excellent websites, almost entirely by accident, which is the best way I find. Check these out if you get time:
www.dogmatika.com
www.3ammagazine.com
I also discovered Chuck Palahniuk. This opened an interesting debate with some fellow writers who felt that it was not possible to write a story in the present tense because it does not make sense. I disagree, particulary as Fight Club is written, largely, in the present tense. What do you think, fellow writers? Does creative fiction have to stick to the rules?
Gotta go, I'm hungry.
